About Us
Double S RV park is a family owned and operated business located in Huntington, TX, a small town located in the Deep East Texas area of the Pineywoods. Dennis and Pattie Samford bought the park and greenhouses/nursery in 2006 from Curtis and Pat Crawford who established the business in 1997. Dennis (Papa) and Pattie (Grannie) do all the work. Our sidekick Michael Grogan and any of our four children and seven grandchildren help out when they are available and want to pitch in. Dennis retired after 30 years in the Navy and worked another five years in Germany for a telecommunications company which he co-owned. Wanting a slower pace of life, they found their way here to Huntington to be near and enjoy time with their parents.
Close by are Brookshire Brothers grocery store, two banks, several gas stations, a doctor’s clinic, two pharmacies and many churches. If you don’t want to cook, our small town offers enough eating establishments to vary your choices every day of the week. Lufkin, TX, is located just 9 miles north of Huntington with the conveniences of the “big” city such as shopping, movies, bowling, the Ellen Trout zoo, fine eating establishments and more medical care.
Whether you are in the area to visit friends and relatives, work, attend Angelina College, build a house, fish or hunt, obtain medical care at one of Lufkin’s two excellent hospitals, attend a convention, or just passing through, we hope to make your stay with us as comfortable as possible. In your down time, our area on the edge of the Angelina National Forest offers abundant birding and wildlife to see, hiking trails, and golfing at several courses nearby. The RV park is only 12 miles from some of the best fishing in Texas at Lake Sam Rayburn, the largest lake in Texas! Angelina and Neches rivers run nearby!
WiFi is available for free at Double S RV Park. We offer small RV supplies you might need for your RV. An RV repair shop is just up the road and the owner makes “housecalls” if needed. There is a laundry on site for the exclusive use of our patrons. Ice and sodas are available as well. We have a propane filling station and sell beautiful plants, trees and shrubs year round from our greenhouses or offer trinkets in our gift shop to add sparkle to your garden.
